Carmel School, Digwadih, Jharkhand
7 January, 1955 saw the beginning of our Little Convent within the colony of the F.R.I. in a house called “Hill Bunglow.” It was through the negotiation of Sister Clarissa who was the Superior of the Convent at Hazaribagh with Rev. Fr. Jacque and Fr. Sharp that laid the first stone to this little foundation of the Apostolic Carmel in Digwadih.
The then out going Director of F.R.I. Dr. Whiltaker and the incoming Director Dr. Lahiri carried on the correspondence through the above two mentioned Fathers and brought about our acceptance of their invitation to have a school in the F.R.I. colony for the education of girls from this area.
Mr. Mani the administrator, our good friend and neighbor and Mr. Mahadevan a member of the school committee gave the sisters a strong support to start with. A lady friend Mrs. Houisin who was greatly interested in the school also helped in getting ourselves settled down in our little house. We started our Apostolate in Digwadih with Sister Violette as the first Superior with a community of three sisters: Srs. Marie Helene Terese and Roseline. Our spiritual needs were attended to by Rev. Fr. Sharp, the Parish Priest of Dhanbad.
