Carmel Bal Vihar is a special school for the hearing impaired children of all classes and creeds which, at present, is a Project of Carmel Convent, Sonari. There are 150 hearing impaired students, among them 55 boys are accommodated in the hostel. These children are mainly from Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. At present, Sister Iris looks after the overall maintenance, study and discipline of the school and hostel.

These children are given opportunities to participate in all the extra-curricular activities organized at the state and national level and they bring laurels to Carmel Bal Vihar, Sonari. They excel in sports, drawing and painting, dance, flower making, face painting, collage making, etc.
