Carmel School, Gorakhpur is known for its uncompromising standards and excellence with 100% results in the ICSE/ISC Examinations, Carmel School enjoys 76 years of rich history of imparting education to the students. Situated in the heart of the city, just a 10 minutes walk from the Gorakhpur Junction Railway Station and opposite to the Gorakhpur Regional P.F. Office, it is a Christian English Medium School for Girls and believes in providing quality education to all students from every community and religion, regardless of their caste and creed.

The school started on 21 January 1941 on a small plot belonging to St. Joseph’s Church and named St. Mary’s School, which was later rechristened as Carmel School. In the year 1956, 6.2 acres of land was procured by the society, where the school stands now. Started on a small piece of land, the school went on to become one of the most sought after schools in the Gorakhpur District, with a capacity of 2,500 students at present.

The School is governed by the religious jurisdiction of the Catholic Bishop of Gorakhpur and is administered by the Carmel Sadan Society, UP, Headquartered at Lucknow.

The school initially started as a co-education middle school and imparted education up to class VIII, the education for boys was limited to class V only.

In the landmark year of 2005, the school obtained affiliation of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations and was subsequently upgraded to ICSE level and became a full fledged high school (class X). In the year 2009, the school turned exclusively a school for girls.

The year 2011-2012, turned out to be yet another landmark year for the school when it was further upgraded to ISC level, i.e. up to Class XII.

All these years the school provided education only in the Science stream. However a pressing demand from parents, was to introduce Commerce stream during the 2014-2015 session.

The school is supported with state-of-the-art facilities such as well equipped Science and Mathematics laboratories and class-rooms equipped with computer aided teaching systems and rich, treasured and informative library which is well updated.
