Mount Carmel College, Lucknow is a gift to the people, given by the Most Rev. Bishop Albert Conrad De Vito, Ofm (Cap), the first Bishop of Lucknow. The Bishop, greatly desired to have a girls’ school in English Medium run by the Religious. For this the Bishop chose the Apostolic Carmel of Mangalore and entrusted the work of planning and executing to Mother Cleopha, AC the Superior of Fatima Convent, Kanpur, as the community of Lucknow was not yet installed. Mother Cleopha approached the then Superior General, Mother Sylvia, AC who was too willing to open a school in distant Lucknow. Her zeal and Mother Cleopha’s eagerness to comply with the request of Bishop Conrad were well met.

On 10 January, 1958, the Carmel seedling was planted in a not so promising plot in Mahanagar, Lucknow. There were 10 students on roll, and as the days passed more students took admission and meanwhile the school building too came up.

Sister Xena AC was the first Superior and Headmistress of the School. As the years passed the School grew by leaps and bounds and today there are 2000 students on roll. Initially the School functioned under U.P. Board and in 2007 it changed over to The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi, and prepares students for the ICSE & ISC Examinations.

The School has kept pace with other schools of international cadre and offers quality education to the girls of Lucknow with all modern amenities. Being the only girls’ school, it has become a school much sought after, over the years.
