Sacred Heart Convent School is a Catholic Minority School established and administered by the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation. The School is under the religious jurisdiction of the Bishop of Jamshedpur.
The school is unaided, imparts education to the girl students, irrespective of their caste, creed, religion or social and financial background.
Sacred Heart Convent School was established on 15 January, 1945 and the school began functioning from 22 January, 1945. It started at 5, Beldih Triangle, thence C.N.R. Hall, Dhatkidih High School and Dalma Villa. A plot of land at Park Road, Nothern Town, was allotted by Tata Iron and Steel Company(now Tata Steel Ltd.) and the present school building was constructed and occupied in January 1951.
In March 1952 the school sent up its first batch of Matriculates. In 1963, the affiliation to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi was obtained and the first batch of students took the ISC Examination in 1965. The change over to the present ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) was made in 1974. The first batch of ISC students (Std XII with Arts, Commerce and Science) was sent up in March 1995. The School has celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in the year 2005.
The school has made provision for the weaker students to appear for the National Indian Open School Examinations (NIOS) for Class X. The Sacred Heart Literacy Project School has been started keeping in mind the underprivileged children.
The Carmel Community College was started in September, 2015 offering a One Year Diploma Course in ‘Office Management’ and in July 2016, a six – month Certificate Course in Tailoring & Embroidery was also introduced. The main objective of the Community College is ‘Empowerment of the disadvantaged and underprivileged’ sections of the society by providing job oriented, skill based and life coping education in collaboration with the local industries and the community.
Modern amenities, well-furnished 2 computer laboratories, well equipped Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories, modern Language laboratory and a spacious library with reference books in all subjects help students to grow holistically. Smart classes introduced to make study lively, creative and interesting to students. Sports facilities are provided to students with specialized training by coaches in Karate, Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Cricket, Chess etc. At present the strength from L.KG to Std. XII is 2182. There are 59 Teaching and 5 Non-teaching well trained and dedicated Staff, along with the maintenance staff, catering to the development of the modern students.
