Carmel Convent, Buxar - 2007
The Diocese of Buxar was created on 12 December, 2005. Rt. Rev. William D’Souza S.J., was the first Bishop of Buxar, who worked wholeheartedly for the development of the Diocese. Among his other priorities he felt a great need of Education specially of an English medium school. In Buxar there are Hindi medium schools recognized by the Bihar Board. The students go out of Buxar for English and quality education. Seeing this great need the Bishop invited the Apostolic Carmel sisters to Buxar. He sent two letters in 2006, to the then Provincial Superior, Sister Dipasha A.C., to open a house and to start an English medium school in his Diocese.
The first visit to Buxar was made on 17 August, 2006, by Sister Maria Dipasha, the then Provincial Superior, along with Sisters Margaret Mary and Marie Therese to explore the place in order to see the possibility of starting a new convent and a school here. The same team visited the site a second time on 25 November, 2006, along with Rt. Rev. William D’Souza S.J. and Fr. Jose Perumalil. They visited the three sites and finally selected the last one, at Churamanpur, Buxar.
On 29 May, 2007, Sisters Maria Dipasha and Marie Therese came to Buxar to finalise the house to be taken on rent, at Syndicate, Buxar. It was a newly constructed house, to start a convent and a school with K.G I and II from July, 2007. On 24 June, 2007, the house was blessed and the pioneers were Sister Maria Promodini, Sister-in-charge, Sister Felice (H.M.), Sister Emerentia, Sister Alice Menezes and Sister Mabel D’Souza. Admissions began on 10 July. Amrit Gaurav was the first student admitted in Carmel School on 12 July, 2007. The school started with four students in K.G I and three students in K.G II.
The foundation for the Convent building was laid on 4 February, 2009, at Churamanpur. It was blessed by Rt. Rev. William D’Souza S.J., the Archbishop of Patna and the Administrator of Buxar Diocese. The foundation for the school building was laid on 28 March, 2009, at Churamanpur by Fr. Jose Madathezheth, the Parish Priest of Buxar. The financial help for the Primary school building came from the ‘German Doctors Association’.
Sister Renisha A.C. took charge of the school, on 29 June, 2009.
On April 25, 2010, the newly built Convent and School, at Churamanpur, was blessed by our Rt. Rev. Archbishop William D’Souza S.J., Archbishop of Patna and Rt. Rev. Bishop Sebastian Kallupura, Bishop of Buxar. The convent was inaugurated by Sister Maria Dipasha, the Provincial Superior.
The sisters continued their mission here for three years and on 25th April, 2010 the convent and the school was shifted from Syndicate to Churamanpur. The seed which was sown in Syndicate with seven students has sprouted and grown over these 10 years and now at Churamanpur the strength has come up to 874 students.
In 2013, June, Sister Flavian took charge of the school and along with the sisters, worked for the temporary affiliation from the ICSE Council which was obtained in 2016 after much hard work, prayer and sacrifice. The first batch of students, 14 on roll will appear for their ICSE Board examinations in 2018.
As all our students are a first generation learners, Sister Sharel, the present Principal and the sisters along with the staff, work very hard to impart value based education and are bringing up the standard of the students.
