A batch of pioneering sisters came for the installation of Sister Maximine A.C as the first Superior of Carmel Convent Sonari, on 1st October 1998. Sisters Clemencia, Maria Graca, Blanda and Flavian were the other members who formed the pioneering community. This project was ventured into by the then Provincial Superior, Sr. Mena Dā€™ Silva A.C.

The Convent was inaugurated by the then Provincial Superior Sr. Marie Therese A.C. and blessed by Rt. Rev. Bishop Felix Toppo S.J of Jamshedpur Diocese. A cultural fest was organised at XLRI auditorium to communicate the grand opening. The Convent was opened to fulfill a twofold purpose, first, to ease the pressure of admission at Sacred Heart Convent School and secondly to take care of the children at BalVihar and give them the opportunity of main stream in Education. We thank God for the marvellous work done by the sisters of Carmel Convent through the years.
